Sub: Frequent police atrocities at Jeedimetla Police Station reg.,
Sir/Madam,
We, representing Human Rights Forum (HRF), would like to bring to your notice about the two police atrocities incidents in a span of one month at Jeedimetla Police Station.
1. Ashok was brought to Jeedimetla Police station in the first week of September to enquire about theft. He was harassed physically and mentally. Unable to cope up, he committed suicide and died on 11th September 2024. Case no 1166/24 under 194 BNSS filed at Petbasheerabad P.S but no investigation is happening around police torture.
2. Ramu Nayak, was brutally hit by police personnel at Jeedimetla Police station on 16th September 2024 in the pretext of enquiry regarding petty fight on Rs. 5000. He was set free on the same day. He suffered physical injuries and was not able to go to work. As a daily wage labourer, this is affecting his livelihood.
These two incidents are against the spirit of Friendly Policing and 7th promise made by Honourable Chief Minister Mr. Revanth Reddy that the Telangana State will be free of such atrocities.
Human Rights Forum, condemn the incidents and demand that the two incidents should be enquired by officials not less than DCP rank and made it public.
We reiterate that friendly policing should not be confined to modern buildings and the presence of social media. Unless each citizen is sure that he or she will not be mistreated both physically and mentally, we can’t assume that friendly policing is being implemented.
Human Rights Forum (HRF) is an unregistered organisation working on Human Rights Issues for the past 25 years.
